Your desire is to make money selling online, but your not sure what is the best alternative. Affiliate marketing is a terrific avenue to make money selling online. With its recent spike in popularity it appears there is more interest than ever. Some might ask why? There are numerous reasons for this, but I think the primary reason is that the benefits have become apparent.
Merchants and affiliates can clearly see the benefits of their mutual relationship. Affiliate marketing gives merchants a lower cost form of advertising and affiliates are given the ability to make money selling online without have to have their own products to market. Affiliate marketing is seen different with its recent rise to popularity. It is now considered a main source of profits and revenue.
So the question remains, what is the best type of affiliate marketing program for you to make money selling online? Are all programs equal? Do they have the same benefits, or do some work better than others?
Affiliate marketing programs come in many forms. A basic or common programs is pay-per-click (PPC) or pay-per-lead (PPP). The most popular type of programs for affiliates with smaller sites is PPC. This also provides them the easiest way to make money. With this type of marketing, the affiliate is paid by the merchant each time a visitor is referred to the merchant. This referral usually comes in the form of a click through from a banner or text ad on the affiliates site. Incidentally, an affiliate is paid a small fee, regardless of a visitor purchasing anything from the merchant.
PPP is a very popular form of affiliate marketing for the merchant and is often the most lucrative program for the affiliates. The merchant is only required to pay the affiliate if the visitor performs an action. This action in most cases is make a purchase or become a lead. They become a lead by filling out some sort of information. It is called a pay-per-sale program (PPS) when it is based on a visitor purchase. It is called a pay-per-lead (PPL) program if the visitor is required to fill out a form.
You will also see affiliate marketing programs categorized as single tier, two tier or multi tier. These tiers refer to the depth or the levels upon which the network makes payments to the affiliates. In a single tier program the affiliate is paid only on the initial sale or lead. Under a two tier program the affiliate is paid on the direct sale or lead, and also paid when they recruit other marketers and those marketers make sales for the merchant. A multi tier program works similarly, only the affiliate marketer is paid commissions on a wider number of affiliates in different tiers of the network.
Additionally, a program can be categorized as a residual income program. This refers to a program that will pay an affiliate continued payment for some period of time. In other words, let say the visitor buys membership into the merchants program. The merchant agrees to pay the affiliate for a period of time. In some cases this is the lifetime of the client or referral, and in others it is a pre-establish period of time. So in the case of a membership if it is a lifetime commission, every time that client pays his dues, the affiliate marketer gets a commission. If it is a 30 day period of time then the affiliate is paid on all the purchases made by the client in those days.
